Travel Information

Hammer Travel provides an array of unique vacation experiences for travelers with developmental disabilities. We have trips to exciting cities, events, climates. Each trip is customized to fit the needs and desires of our travelers.

At each destination, travelers will choose some of the attractions, restaurants and events that are most intriguing to them. We pride ourselves in making each trip as meaningful as possible for each individual traveler.

Safety

  1. Having detailed medication sheets that are traveler specific
  2. We will also adjust the med passing times to accommodate for time changes due to time zones
  3. We will safely accommodate for most medical equipment/needs.
  4. Hammer Travel has an on-call nursing department at our disposal during each trip.
    • 911 and contacts will be called if there is a medical emergency.

Quality

  1. We will only use non-stop flights unless absolutely impossible to do so.
  2. It is company policy that no one will ever share a bed with anyone, unless it is requested and approved prior to the trip by the traveler and/or his/her guardian.
  3. Everyone involved in the trip (consumers, guardians, staff, etc.) will be given contact information, and phone calls will be returned as soon as possible.
  4. Our travel team member to traveler ratio will typically be 1:4 and can be reduced if needs of travelers need further assistance.

Choices

  1. We will allow for a variety of dining experiences and limit fast food meals.
  2. Each traveler’s opinions, choices and rights will be valued on every trip to ensure individual needs/desires are met.

Unique Destinations

  1. We will plan each day with down time to allow each traveler to explore, enjoy and relax at each activity on the trip.
  2. We will give travelers the opportunity to choose destination specific activities while on each trip.

Staff

  1. Our travel team will consist of highly trained, top notch people that work together to provide the highest standards care.
  2. Staff Members are trained in medication administration, behavioral safety, physical intervention alternatives, first aid /CPR, emergency protocols, seizure, wheelchair/lift van, basic medical equipment, communication, personal cares and more.
  3. Hammer has served people with developmental disabilities for over 85 years.
  4. Staff of the same gender will be provided to assist and support with personal cares when necessary.
